Established in 2016 by Alex Oslopov, Anglewood has grown from its humble beginnings in a garage into a world-renowned business known for its high-quality craftsmanship and innovative design. As the largest shop of its kind in Toronto, Anglewood is recognized for its custom-built, live-edge wood and epoxy dining tables. Located in our 11,000SF facility in Toronto, we have our own wood and metal shops, as well as a wide format 52″ planer, which enables our team to design and build epoxy tables entirely in-house. By purchasing truckloads of slabs on a monthly basis, we are able to keep costs low and maintain a consistently high selection of locally-sourced slabs. We take pride in our extensive collection of local, Ontario-sourced hardwoods, and are always excited to explore new designs, materials, and custom solutions for our valued customers.
Our showroom wasn’t always this mighty. Debuting as a one-man show in the owner’s garage to an impressive 11,000SF shop with a dedicated, full-time staff, Anglewood was born to combine wood’s beauty with creative designs and sound build. Each of our pieces is built on the foundation of artistry and craftsmanship by our specialized team right here in Toronto, using quality materials, local wood, and industry-leading finishes and epoxy resins. We hold ourselves to incredibly high standards and deliver beautifully hand-crafted, long-lasting and functional pieces for your home. Check out some of our exciting milestones over the years.
After years of trial and error and a whole lot of passion for woodworking, Anglewood was born. Giving up a 15 year long career in Graphic Design was the scariest but also exciting experience. Starting from a modest, garage-run shop, the company started off with just a few custom projects. It wasn’t long before our custom pieces gained traction.
After just one year and already with few invaluable additions to the team Anglewood moved into our shop in North York. The 1st year we spent in our small garage had many obstacles and hardships including surviving the famous Ontario winter, while building 2-3 dining tables a week in a sub-zero environment. Overcoming these challenges created the foundation for our "can do" attitude that carries Anglewood today.
Riding the wave of enthusiasm and success of the previous 2 years two more retail/showroom locations were opened in Aurora and High Park. Our team grew larger and we began to gain traction in the Ontario live edge scene. Our innovative metal work and epoxy work has gained traction in the GTA and we were struggling with keeping up with custom orders.
2019 was a pivotal year for Anglewood. With more additions to the team, increase in custom work and expansion to retailing wood slabs and woodworking materials proved too difficult to manage with two additional locations. Closing both Aurora and High Park locations allowed us to concentrate on our main North York shop.
2020 was supposed to be the "year '' when 4 years of hard work and growth was to bring in some level of calm and stability. While having a great start to the year by exhibiting in the International Design Show in Toronto, we quickly got swept up in the madness that followed with the global pandemic. We remained open through the pandemic, including early uncertain stages, quickly adapted to online interactions with customers and did everything else we had to do to survive. Next couple of years had its own challenges and tribulations but we feel fortunate compared to other industries and have managed a steady growth and many improvements to the shop including a remodeled showroom and our own wide format 52" planer.
2022 is a very exciting year for us. Having "survived" Covid and completed many in-house improvements we are positioned very well to do what we do best - build one-of-a-kind tables and supply local woodworkers with everything they need to do the same. We have all the best tools, space, extensive supply of stock and the best and most experienced team in the business when it comes to resin work.
Of all the natural materials he has worked with, wood became an instant favourite for shop owner Alex. After years of amateur woodworking experience in his garage, the craft kept drawing him in again and again, and it wasn’t long before he grew inspired by the history behind each slab. Over the years, Alex developed a love for transforming new and reclaimed wood into beautiful pieces of furniture. He finally turned his passion into a growing business where he and his team of carpenters and metalworkers refined a process of building high-quality, distinctive wood tables specific to a customer’s unique design.
